Include a small amount of protein with every meal
Protein helps fill you up and curbs hunger between meals. Good sources include:
- Egg (whites)
- Nonfat/lowfat cottage cheese
- Nonfat/lowfat cheese
- Chicken
- Turkey
- Fish
- Milk
- Yogurt
- Protein powder
- Beans
- Nuts/nut butters (peanut butter, almond butter)
Include at least one fruit or vegetable every meal
Fruits and vegetables have lots of important vitamins and are filling (due to their high water content), yet very low in calories.
Include a small amount of healthy fat every meal"Healthy" fats are those of plant (or fish) origin:
- Olive oil
- Avocado
- Raw nuts: almonds, walnuts, pecans, Brazil nuts, etc.
- Raw seeds: pumpkin, sunflower, ground flaxseeds
- Wild salmon
- Flaxseed oil
- Canola oil
Pay attention to portion sizes
Large portions translate into excess calories which results in weight gain.
