When was your weight loss surgery? 11-5-2008
Which surgery was it? RNY
Starting weight or BMI: 250 lb.
Current weight or BMI: 145 lb.
I had decided to have the last 20 years of my viable life be the healthiest possible. After battling obesity all my adult life--I was sick and tired. I had/have type 2 diabetes, hypertension, reflux, arthritis and was despondent.
I had been against bariatric surgery, but for some reason--I think God helped me--I came to realize that I needed to do this--so I did.
At a great University Medical Center close to my home. I was up the same day--out of the hospital in 2 and on the treadmill (only 10 minutes at a time)by the 3rd day.
I follow the instructions regarding vitamins and exercise and diet (including adequate water) to the best of my ability. I was taken off all diabetes meds (had been on two rx's), blood pressure meds, cholesterol meds (my Dr. put me back on Pravastatin about 6 mos. ago as my cholesterol had inched up).
I am now almost two years out--and I find that some days I am hungrier than others. Some days I can eat more than other days.
I do consume 1-2 glasses of wine just about every evening--something I enjoy. I walk my dogs 6-7 mornings a week--about 1 mile--fairly fast:)They are Boxers and are energetic:) I find that if I don't exercise--I don't feel as good mentally or physically.
I have a very stressful job--own my own business for 27 years, and in this economy--am running the business by myself. I will be 68 years old in a couple of months and I thank God every day that I made this decision for myself.
A woman I know had the surgery in another state and two months later had a twisted bowel and died--a horrible thing--so the decision is not to be taken lightly--she was 48 years old.
Whatever motivates you--seek wise counsel and pray that the decision you make is the right one for you. AND above all--locate the best medical facility you can find!!
Good Luck and God Bless!!
